Even though it was not named the
NBA until 1949, the first NBA Title is credited to the
Philadelphia Warriors in 1947. The Boston Celtics dominated the
NBA from 1956-57 to 1968-69 where they won the NBA Finals 11
times in 13 seasons, and a record 8 in a row, which is yet to be
matched.
The Boston Celtics have won more NBA titles than any
other team. In the ‘70s and ‘80s, new talent was ushered in as
Larry Bird and Magic Johnson began taking the NBA by storm. The
Los Angeles Lakers won the NBA Finals 5 times in the ‘80s, and
the Boston Celtics captured the title 3 times. Michael Jordan
and the Chicago Bulls dominated the ‘90s.
The Chicago Bulls won
six championships in eight seasons, and managed to repeat a
three-peat. The Los Angeles Lakers began the 21st century with a
three-peat of their own, and the San Antonio Spurs have won the
NBA Championship twice in the previous three seasons, and three
times since 1999. |
